I was already a member of Paddy Power when I started the experiment, so couldn't include the free bet received from them. In fact, I probably squandered it on a long shot which I thought was a dead cert. I do receive emails from them, though, and one I received on Friday, 26 September caught my eye. The title was 'A Free Bet From Paddy Power!'. The contents of the email detailed a free bet of £10 for a £10 wager. Seemed to fit the requirements of the experiment, so I quickly logged into their site and wagered on the popular Everton v Liverpool game. £10 Liverpool to win at 2.2 was matched exactly by a Betfair lay of £10.53 at 2.14 - this is a £0.00 qualifying bet.
I used my £10 free bet on the almost as popular Middlesbrough v West Brom match. A 5.5 bet was countered on Betfair with a 5.5 lay of £8.26.
Update (Monday, 29 September): Liverpool won, but that match made no difference to my overall profit. West Brom also won, so my Paddy Power account increased by £45 while my Betfair account reduced by £37.17 - a £7.83 profit. The overall total increases to £265.58.
Going through my emails, I got a similar Paddy Power email one month previously, which I missed. I won't make that mistake again.
